Coming in November - changes to First Aid.

Every 5 years the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) review the latest research and evidence in resuscitation, and then release updated guidelines.  In addition to this, for the first time in history, this year the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) have also produced guidelines for first aid.The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) Guidelines.
For the first time in history, the ERC have published guidelines on first aid. This follows an ILCOR led review of evidence in specific first aid topics. The ERC first aid guidelines are based on a worldwide expert consensus of best practice following an international evidence-based review, making them an extremely important addition to first aid practice in Europe.

Want to know more about these changes then please contact either:
Phone - 01709 940999 or Email - admin@co2training.co.uk for the when the next L2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work or L3 Award in First Aid at Work is running or to book your next course.

Care homes targeted in fire safety drive

Enforcement action has been taken against 14 residential care or nursing homes since 2013 under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.The action varied from the partial closure of buildings, to forcing owners to put adequate fire safety measures in place.
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue says there are some basic things that care providers can do to avoid falling foul of fire safety law. This includes carrying out a fire risk assessment, which is essential for ensuring the safety of those being cared for. Other measures include proper maintenance of fire detection systems and ensuring escape routes are adequate.
Technical Fire Safety Manager Amy Jenkinson, said: “Older people, as well as those with mental health problems and those with mobility issues, are amongst the people most at risk from fire. But we are concerned by how many premises- which should be places where people feel safe- are failing to meet some basic fire safety standards.
“Prosecutions under fire safety legislation are always a last resort and we would much rather work with care providers to ensure good safety standards are met. That’s why we are putting on this event, so care home managers can pick up advice on and so they know what to expect when one of our inspectors visits their premises.
Care homes are monitored by the Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England.

The Importance of Annual Refresher Training of First Aiders

HSE in our guidance strongly recommends employers ensure their first aiders receive annual refresher training. These courses are of very short duration ie less than half a day.  The reason for refreshing these skills annually is that it helps maintain their competency until they re-qualify.  So as an employer if you wish to minimise this risk and maintain your first aiders competency consider introducing annual refresher training if you haven’t done so already.  For more details and course dates please contact us on admin@co2training.co.uk
Unemployed? Want FREE training to improve your job prospects or portfolio of qualifications?
